The Story of Still Waters Homestead

Still Waters Homestead began long before there was a business.

It began with a country girl who fell in love with a city boy. For many years we lived in suburbia, but deep inside that country girl always longed for the quiet rhythm of country life -- a place where life slowed down enough to hear the gentle whisper of God.

When the Lord opened the door, we purchased a neglected piece of land that many people would have overlooked. We saw possibility where others saw problems. The original hundred-year-old farm cottage could not be saved, so along with some incredible friends and family, we gutted and tore it down and started over. For 369 days we lived in a camper while rebuilding our future. Tara worked her full-time job from a simple plywood desk and a stadium chair on the stepdown inside that camper while Chuck drove an hour each way to work each day, and every spare moment was spent restoring the land that would become our home.

Today, when visitors arrive, they often comment on how beautiful the property is. Some say it looks like a golf course. Others describe it as a peaceful retreat. More than once, we've heard, "I've lived here all my life and never knew this place was here," as though they have discovered a hidden destination. But what they see is the finished chapter. We remember the beginning, and we cherish this land all the more because we know the work, faith, and heart it took to bring it back to life.

The name Still Waters grew from both the land and the promise of Scripture. With slow moving creeks bordering the property and a pond resting at its heart, the words of Psalm 23 felt woven into the place God has given us. Its words had become deeply personal, reminding us that true peace is not found in perfect circumstances, but in trusting the Shepherd and following wherever He leads.

Looking back, we see that God was doing far more than building a homestead.

He was teaching us restoration, stewardship, patience, and trust. Still Waters Homestead exists because the Shepherd faithfully led us beside still waters.
